Are you one of THOSE people? Have you made New Year’s Resolutions and then failed yourself? To be honest, I haven’t made a real list of resolutions since I was in high school and was forced to because it was an assignment. But, with 2015 around the corner (and my 27th birthday!), I thought I’d give it a shot.
I’m also sharing these with you because I think it will make it a lot harder to bail out once I hit the Publish button.
So here it goes…
New Year’s Resolutions for 2015
1. Enjoy Life – This may appear a bit vague, but I have a lot of personal goals for 2015 and putting them all as new year’s resolutions isn’t what making them is truly about in my opinion. There are times when I let myself think way too much and stress myself out. Worrying about things that aren’t even happening. Is this just me being a girl? A mom? I don’t know. My goal is to end each day on a positive note and meditate on things that made me happy that day as opposed to worrying about tomorrow in advance.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
― Corrie ten Boom
“Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen.
Keep in the sunlight.”
― Benjamin Franklin
2. Read my bible daily – Not only do I intend on being more routine with reading my bible, but I will focus on reading the actual book instead of using my bible app. There’s something about highlighting and writing in the margins of my bible that makes me feel more connected to The Word. I can’t be the only one that thinks this… don’t you agree?
3. Transform my body – I get a lot of scoffs when I say I want to be more fit. I’m not super skinny and I’m not really overweight either. I’m about 5 feet tall (yeah right haha) and 120 pounds (it’s been between 115-120 the last year). The problem is, I don’t really focus much on a particular diet.
I’m not sure what program I will be doing yet, but I don’t want to spend money on a gym membership. I think choosing a plan and logging it here for accountability will be enough to keep up with my new year’s resolutions.
Anybody want to suggest what to do? Wanna be virtual fitness buddies?
4. Teach Jazlynn something new – Being a parent is really exciting. Of course it can be stressful, but I’m trying to not to worry, right? Jazlynn is growing up so fast – it’s so awesome when you see your child’s little personality developing into their own. Children are sponges and if you want them to know things, it might as well come from you.
There have been a lot of ideas stirring up in my head and I haven’t done much execution. We’re pretty set on rewards and consequences. Learning right from wrong is a day to day, duh!
I’m thinking of starting a project of a monthly country for us to explore. Maybe schedule something to learn about the country each week of the month: We can try a new recipe one week, a tradition the next, read a native story, and learn about someone important who is from there.
Doesn’t this sound like a cool idea?
5. Speak more Spanish – As a Puerto Rican mother, I have completely failed my daughter in teaching her Spanish. So this is why I want to make speaking Spanish in our home a priority and one of my new year’s resolutions.
Any time we visit family and they try to speak to her and ask simple things like her age and how she’s doing, she has a puzzled look and I’m immediately embarrassed. Are there any other Latina moms out there dealing with this?
Please help if you have any suggestions – what should I do?
Here’s to keeping in the sunlight!!
