Yes, it’s a post on the upcoming new year. And yes, it’s something related to being healthy. But no, it’s not about being fit or starting a new fad diet. Today I’m sharing 5 healthy things you can do on New Year’s Eve.
5 Healthy Things To Do on New Year’s Eve
- Reflect. Take some time to journal or if you aren’t a stationary freak like me, just grab a blank sheet of paper and spill your guts. It may even read cheesy at first, but give it a good 15 minutes or so and you’ll start digging deep into your soul for what you really think of the New Year.
- Nothing. Yes, I know that sounds weird. But schedule a good hour (or at the very least half hour) of nothing into your day. Give your mind time to relax and don’t even plan or think of anything. Try to meditate on peace and whenever your mind wanders into a place of contemplation for anything just focus on an inanimate object and work towards a blank slate again.
- Smile. It has been scientifically proven that smiling, even when you don’t feel happy, makes you be in a better mood. I think this is one of the hardest things to do when you aren’t in the mood, but try not to fight off a smile when you feel it coming – it’s okay to smile. It’s okay to be happy.
- Share. Your presence. Your friendliness. Your heart. Speak with others and seek ways to be helpful. You will see that life has its way of balancing those things out for your good.
- Dance. I’m not a huge dancer. But as a mom I often find myself making a silly dance and song just to get my kid to go along with something I want to have happen. And it’s not about fitness (though it does burn calories) but instead about tricking your mind to feeling happy and releasing those endorphins we need to feel good.
Now tell me if you wanted to change one of these, which would it be and what would you change it to?

I love the idea to dance! We always go to my husband’s family for New Years Eve and have a family party at someone’s house. One year the highlight was that his younger cousin got one of the Just Dance games and we spent hours dancing in the basement. It was so much fun and still something I remember fondly.
Great ideas! I love how they’re all so simple yet we over look these things a lot of times. I’m all for doing nothing. In fact, i’m hoping that we get to spend New Year’s Eve at home, doing just that…nothing.
I agree with your list. I am going dancing with my honey on NYE. Can’t wait to burn those calories.
Plan. I am going to sit down with my planner on NYE and set it up for the next year. This calms me and keeps me sane.
What a great list! I can’t wait for tonight to dance with my boyfriend and I like the journal idea. I like smiling too when I don’t feel my best. Thanks for sharing :))
I am definitely a huge fan of the dancing and doing nothing! I have been dancing around the house all night to Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin Eve while I pack up our Christmas decor. Nothing crazy…but I love it!
I love the idea of doing nothing! The holidays are so hectic and chaotic that taking time to refocus and do nothing is a great way to replenish.
